Port Discovery Part I Alexis and I

Alexis with her recycled supplies to make a craft.

Our finished product: a flower.

Ali back in the saddle again. It's been awhile.

Getting the opportunity to pump gas.

Can I help you? Cashing out at
the pretend grocery store and
cash register.

When we came out the doors of Famous Footwear. I looked to our left and there was Port Discovery, I had no idea we were that close! The girls screamed "Yay!" and we tested out those new sneaks on the quick block over to PD. After paying our admission and using our KidStuff coupon for a free kid(yes!), we entered amazed and overwhelmed. We used the family restroom and were ready for some fun. Joe took Lilli and Anna through Kidworks(the huge three story rope and climbing area). While Alexis and I headed off to arts and farts as I lovingly call it in the art studio room. We walked in and were greeted by a PD helper who had a head full of dreads. She explained the craft of the day was dot painting. Alexis wasn't interested in that and chose to make her own craft using the recycled supplies they had in boxes against the wall.
There were pre-made crafts the staff had made as examples and my wheels of creativity started turning. We found a plastic piece that was perfect to create a flower, green feathers, paper and pipe cleaners for the stem. Three coffee filters were our flower and markers to give it color. We set to work and had a nice relaxing time as we were serenaded by the reggae music playing around us. Alexis is still singing "Don't worry about a thing, cuz every little thing is gonna be alright!" (Bob Marley) Ha-Ha! Thus the reason you are being serenaded by that song right now.
We left the studio (and Bob Marley) and found Joshua's Journey. An exhibit about a real black cowboy. We read and talked about branding cows. They had brands and doodle pads to draw your own brand. Cowboy spurs, boots, ropes and all kinds of cowboy paraphernalia. Alexis sat in one of the saddles and had a ropin' good time. We then found the VW Beetle donated by Royal Farms and a gas and air pump. Alexis had fun pretending to fill up the Beetle. She then went to the grocery store to shop. She thought it was really great to use the scale and cash register. Realizing that it had been awhile we decided to catch up with Joe and the other girls. To be continued.....
